Autumn Vibes Arrive in Cornwall

Autumn Vibes Arrive in Cornwall

During the last couple of weeks Autumn has well & truly arrived in Cornwall, weaving a beautiful soft shroud of soft russets, burnt orange & golds throughout the countryside. Leaves are beginning to fall from the trees in abundance & I can't resist the childlike urge to scuff onto them during autumnal walks with our grandchildren scattering piles in all directions, very satisfying!

In my opinion indulging in few days break during Autumn is a 'no brainer' with quieter beaches, traffic jams almost non existent, positively balmy sea temperatures (warmest of the year)! frequently accompanied by a very pleasant Indian Summer, what's not to like!

Take a look at the list below for suggestions of places to visit & things to do during a stay in our lovely county during Autumn

A Pick of Dog Friendly Beaches in Cornwall

Your four legged friend is always welcome to join you & your family on some of Cornwall's beautiful dog friendly beaches. There are caveats however, one of these being to pick up your dog litter & dispose of responsibly within the bins provided & there are beaches that require dogs to be kept on a lead whilst there. In general there is a great selection of beaches which are dog friendly at certain times of the year, not all though so it’s always best to check for confirmation beforehand. Once there, you & your dog get to experience some precious time on a beautiful beach taking in the fresh sea air whilst indulging in ball games, splashing through numerous rock pools & even go for a swim or paddle in the sea, which I am reliably informed is at its warmest in the Autumn months .....!

The Lost Gardens of Heligan

A firm favourite of ours at Badgers is a visit to these lovely gardens, brimming with seasonal colour, with many fun filled events held throughout the year for all the family to join in and explore!

Autumn vibes currently abound throughout Heligan, it's a fantastic chance to wrap up warm, dig out those wellies out and take the family & four legged friend for a tramp through some of the trails within this stunning 200 acre estate, kicking up leaves as you go!

Be sure not to miss the magnificent harvest display of pumpkins, vegetables & ornamental flowers all grown on the estate & located within the walled garden.

Why not round things off with a well deserved steaming mug of hot chocolate alongside something delicious from the Heligan Kitchen which caters for all tastes & dietary requirements, there are alternative cafes such as the Garden Bites Takeaway plus various outlets available at certain times of the year located throughout the estate.

National Maritime Museum, Cornwall

The National Maritime Museum in Falmouth is a fantastic place to visit come rain or shine! Parking is easy in the huge carpark right next door & once parked it's a hop skip & a jump to the Museum's front entrance!
Once inside, you will be spoilt for choice with things to do & exhibitions to explore. The kids (and big kids) will be fascinated by the dastardly deeds of ghoulish Pirates from way back when & discovering blood thirsty secrets from their past, a must do - if you dare ....

Watch out if you are visiting the museum during the October half term for lots of ghostly activities to take part in, such as the eerily spooky Silhouettes & Puppets show where shadows of mythical characters are beamed onto ship sails in the boat hall whilst ancient puppet stories are told & songs are sung!

Why not have a go at creating your very own Cornish mythical puppet & impress your friends with an ad hoc puppet show! Follow the shivery Halloween Trail to find shadowy scenes where you can check out some Cornish ghostly myths & legends, a trick or treat is there for the taking once you have discovered all 5!

Walk, Run, Cycle!

Take your pick of fun & free things to do with the family during a stay in Cornwall during the 1/2 term. Whether you fancy a coastal stroll along our lovely South West Coast Path with amazing views over the ocean, where in some locations you may get to see seals & dolphins basking! or 'kicky leaves' woodland walks, surrounded by colours & scents of Autumn. Nothing beats wrapping the kids up warm, & putting on wellies to follow a woodland trail, splashing in puddles & kicking through crunchy leaves as you go, not forgetting the family four legged friend who will be more than happy to join in the fun!

A few hours spent cycling on the Camel Trail is a fun & safe way for the family to enjoy time together whilst taking in the fantastic views along the way. You can either bring your own bikes or hire from cycle hire shops which are located at various points along the trail. The route is fairly flat with no busy roads to navigate, so safe for young children to join in.

If you enjoy running, there are some fantastic organised Park Runs throughout Cornwall, usually taking place over the weekend. Eden, Lanhydrock & Tamar Trails are all 5k & a fantastic way to work off some of those Cornish pasties or ice creams! Just remember to pack those trainers beforehand !
