Crunchy Leaves & Golden Hues - Autumn in Cornwall

With the hustle and bustle of Summer now behind us our guests can look forward to quieter beaches, walks through beautiful Cornish countryside and cosy evenings snuggled up by our cottage wood burning stoves during their Autumn breaks.

Mevagissey

There is always plenty to do in Mevagissey, it's fun to stroll through the historic inner and outer harbours whilst taking in ocean views and checking out the colourful fishing boats getting ready for their next trip.

Filled to the brim with a quintessential Cornishness, Mevagissey is oozing with character and has a great selection of independent craft and specialist clothes retailers, it's hard to resist that oh so necessary purchase whilst there!

Charming pubs, restaurants & cafes are all there in abundance, whether it's a flat white and homemade cakes or something more substantial you after, there will be no problem in satisfying those hunger pangs in this pretty little seaside town.

Taymar Valley Donkey Park

A real treat for the little ones and Mums and Dads will enjoy too! Located in the pretty hamlet of Gunnislake, just on the Border of Devon and Cornwall, this friendly rescue centre for donkeys also houses lots of other farm animals including the mischievous goats, playful pigs, cuddly rabbits and cute guinea pigs. The animals are very sociable and enjoy being stroked and fed by their younger visitors!

There is an adventure playground providing lots of additional fun and games, plus donkey rides are available too.

After all this activity, Holly's cafe provides both hot and cold food for those rumbling tummies - their yummy cream teas will satisfy those 'munchie' moments. If you prefer to bring your own food there are lots of shady areas in which to relax and enjoy your very own picnic.

The park has facilities for the disabled, plenty of parking and amazing views over the Plymouth Sound.

Crantock Beach - Simply the Best!

In our opinion Crantock Beach has it all, miles of beautiful golden beach perfect for simply taking a stroll or building sandcastles, oh so soft sand heavenly for squidging your toes into and best of all those fantastic dunes surrounding the bay - great for body boarding down and then climbing back up and doing it all over again ....

The coastline here is amazing gently sloping down towards the ocean - safe for little ones to splash around without being knocked over by large waves. Life guards patrol sections of the beach too watching over and highlighting any dangers, helping to ensure these areas are as safe as possible for everyone.

Parking is plentiful with both a large National Trust Carpark (free if you are a member) and an additional spacious privately owned carpark (£5 for the day at time of writing). The beach caters for all types of foodies, with shacks on the sand serving delicious food and drinks to go there is no chance of being hungry!

The beach is dog friendly all year round, making it a popular choice for all our four legged friends too!

Crantock village is worth a peep with its pretty, quaint buildings, seaside shop selling those very necessary buckets and spades plus two pubs both with varied menus with inside and outside seating areas.

With Crantock being located just outside Newquay it's easily accessible - more time to spend on beach rather than stuck in a traffic jam for what can seem like hours - bonus!

Lanhydrock House and Gardens

Lanhydrock is located just outside Bodmin, literally six miles from Badgers Sett Holiday Cottages and is a special property to visit at any time of year. However during October and November the gardens take on a beautiful Autumnal theme of russets and golds with plenty of fallen leaves from the surrounding woodland to crunch your way through - always a favourite pastime for people of all ages!

The house is well worth a visit too, originating from the Jacobean years it was refurbished in a lavish Victorian style after a destructive fire took place in 1841. You will be able to see how both halves of society lived in the house during those bygone years as you stroll through the servants quarters, including a magnificent Victorian kitchen and the master's much grander living areas, the contrast between the two areas is vast.

The Park Cafe and Stable Tearoom situated within the grounds serve a variety of delicious food to suit all ages including cream teas, sandwiches plus hot and cold meals to suit the most discerning appetites!

Paradise Wildlife Park

Enjoy a fun filled day at this beautiful wildlife park located in Hayle. Join the Tropics Walk through the open air aviary where you will see varieties of budgies, macaws, parrots and a mischievious hand reared cockatoo called Herbert!

Watching the antics of the tiny otters and noisy penguins as they are being fed is always amusing and well worth a visit. Those naughty goats and fluffy sheep need feeding too, bags of their food can be bought from the park.

Get on board the park's Dinasaur Quiz Trail and embark on an exciting adventure through the grounds and you will be sure to come face to face with some of these scary beasts whilst searching for their eggs and answering the quiz questions as you continue your journey - Definitely not for the faint hearted .... however you will be handsomely rewarded with a 'Paradise Park Professor of Palaeontology' certificate on completion in recognition of your outstanding bravery!

After all this activity why not pop along to the Otter Pool Cafe where you will be spoilt for choice with yummy tum filling snacks from paninis and jacket spuds to delicious locally made biscuits and cakes!
